Arbitration

Armes-ADR provides services in both International and Domestic Arbitration.

Arbitration is a procedure in which a dispute is submitted, by agreement of the parties, to one or more arbitrators who make a binding decision on the dispute. In choosing arbitration, the parties opt for a private dispute resolution procedure instead of going to court.

It can only take place if the parties agree to arbitration or provision is made for it in the contract.

Parties have the freedom to select the arbitrator or arbitrators and the procedure is agreed by the contracting parties which provides them with a degree of control, unlike litigation.

Arbitration results in a binding and enforceable decision, or award.  International arbitration is often selected by parties engaged in cross border contracts because it provides safeguards to enforcement in countries which are signatories to the New York Convention.

Murray Armes is a Chartered Arbitrator with experience in both UK domestic and international arbitration of construction disputes.  He has published around 80 awards for commercial and consumer disputes.
